Obituary of James R. Hoyt
Surrounded by family, James R. Hoyt died peacefully at home on July 31, 2015. the son of the late George and Shirley Hoyt, he was born on February 12, 1928 in Downsville, NY. Jim owned and operated The Well Restaurant and the Delhi Diner before joining his sons to run the Hamden Garage. He was a lifelong resident of Delhi who loved his family, friends and community. He was a member and past Grand Master of the Masons and was a 64 year member of the Delhi Fire Department. During his years with the fire department he served not only as a fireman, but with the Fire Police and was also a member of the EMS squad. However, Jim's true joy came from feeding the firemen with the "Breakfast Club" or his involvement with the many department functions. Jim loved all animals and could often be seen driving around town with his dog Max. Jim held a special place in his heart for Lorah Whitbeck, Trish Westenbroek, Tim Murrey, Ed and Jeanette Dewitt, John "Cuz" Hoyt and his bagel shop friends. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years Dorothy, his brother Robert and his sister Margaret. He is survived by his son Brian (Barbara) Hoyt of Bloomville, NY, grandaughter Heather Keles, and great grandson Mason of Schenectady,NY, grandson Cory Tatton of Oneonta, grandson Greg Pelton of Albany, NY; son, Jeffrey (Donna) Hoyt, grandson Chase of Hamden, NY; grandson Brian Hoyt II (Julie), great grandsons, Nash and Cade of Severn MD. A Memorial Service will be held August 6th at 4:00pm in the Delhi Fire Department immediately followed by a celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Delhi Fire Department or the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society would be appreciated.
