Obituary of Elsie B. Rockwell
Elsie B. Rockwell (affectionately known as Birdie) was born in Blenheim, NY on October 24, 1920. She passed away peacefully on October 2, 2015 with family by her side at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital. Elsie was married to Melvin D. Mattice and then to Kenneth C. Rockwell, Sr.
Elsie lived and worked most of her life in Schoharie and Delaware County at Greendell Packing, Audiosears and Graham Labs. She was proud of the fact that she worked into her seventies before retiring. A hard worker all her life she spent a good number of years raising her seven children and in later life trying to help her brothers and sisters when and where she could.
Elsie took pride in being a good homemaker. She was an excellent cook and baker and there were always special birthday cakes for her family. We all enjoyed the wonderful doughnuts she made for us. Elsie always loved flowers, especially yellow roses, and in her retirement, enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. She also enjoyed crocheting and her circle word books.
A game of pitch or chicken-foot dominoes was a great way to spend an afternoon or evening. Elsie loved a good joke or pulling a prank on someone.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Rockwell, her mother, Alice Mattice, son James Mattice, grandchildren Russell Loucks, Kathy and James Mattice, sisters Virginia Zimmerman and Mildred Holland, brothers, Claude, Floyd, Richard and Orson Mattice.
