Obituary of Garrett Menzo Platt

Garrett Menzo Platt Jr., 90, born April 29, 1925, in Stamford, NY to Garrett and Marquerite (Lory) Platt, formerly of Delhi passed away on October 6, 2015, in Chiefland, FL, surrounded by his loving family. He was raised in the small towns of Oneonta, Davenport and Stamford with his brothers, George Platt and Seymour Platt and his sister, Virginia (Platt) Dezo, who predeceased him. He proudly served in World War II aboard the Destroyer McDermut II, DD-677 and received eleven battle stars (American Theatre, Asiatic Pacific,Philippine Liberation and the Victory Medal). According to his grandson, Joshua, he was our real life hero, which all his loved ones believed. Garrett could fix anything and shared this special gift with many. He worked as an automobile mechanic for many years and then worked for the NYC Board of Water Supply, where he retired after 21 years and moved to Florida. He loved the outdoors, working in the woods, hunting and fishing. He especially liked to travel and was the happiest when he had a wheel in his hands. Music was a big part of his life and he loved to play the guitar and harmonica. Garrett is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Marion Miller Platt: and four daughters, Deborah Platt Cook (Tom Koon), Lorri Platt Wentz (Earl), Christina Smith, Kimberly Platt Crunden (William); grandchildren, Elizabeth Teelon, Katherine Allen (Kaitlyn, Garrett Bowker, Cameron Wentz, Savannah Wentz Chambers (Taylor), Kayla Dierkhising (Blake), Joshua Crunden, Zakery Crunden and 4 great-grandchilden, Landon Teelon, William Dierkhising, Parker Dierkhising, Paisley Allen. Who all knew they were so very special to him. He will be missed by many, for he loved many. A Memorial Service will be held on October 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, NY with Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, NY.
