Obituary of Erma L. Fleming

Erma L. Fleming, 91, of Delhi, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, December 14, 2015 at Margaretville Hospital. Born on June 1, 1924 in Newark Valley, Erma was the daughter of the late Claude and Ruby (Williamson) Tarbox. She was a graduate of Newark Valley Central School and went on to attend Oneonta State College. Mrs. Fleming was married to Richard A. Fleming on June 1, 1947, the couple enjoyed over 40 years of marriage until his passing in 1988. Erma was a natural born cook and baker, she loved preparing food and could put a special touch on even the simplest of dishes. She loved to help others and was naturally drawn to the hospitality field, Erma had owned several restaurants over the years, and even in retirement she was still showing her love and care with great food and treats. She was a faithful and devoted member to the West Delhi Presbyterian Church, over the years she had served as a Church Elder and Trustee, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served on the Missionary Society. Erma is survived by her children: Connie (Larry) Copeland of Kirkwood, Steven (Deb) Fleming of Delhi and Claudia Fleming of Bloomville; seven grandchildren: Monica (Kevin) Schaefer of Columbus, OH, Erica (Scott) McCagg of Hudson, Kathryn (Christopher) Otto of Latham, Margot (Erik) VanNatta of Bernardston, MA, Matthew (Jessica) Fleming of Treadwell, John (Ariana) Leach of Spokane, WA, and Don (Ashley) Leach of Bloomville; nine great-grandchildren; a sister: Mary Ann Darling of Endicott; close friend: Ruth Kelsey; and several nieces, nephews and cousins Besides her beloved husband, Richard, and her parents, Erma was predeceased by two brothers: Seth and Duane Tarbox Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family on Thursday, December 17 from 4-7PM at MacArthur Funeral Home, 131 Main St., Delhi.
