Obituary of Joyce E. Montgomery
Joyce E. Montgomery, 72, of Davenport, passed away early Thursday morning, January 21, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born on June 6, 1943 in Oneonta, she was the daughter of the late Mahlon and Marion Briggs. Joyce grew up on the family dairy farm on Prosser Hollow in West Davenport.
She married Francis "Frank" Montgomery on February 26, 1966.
Joyce worked as a Dental Hygienist for many years, retiring from the office of Dr. R. Pondolfino, DDS of Oneonta.
She was Vice President of the Mary Briggs Historical Society in Davenport Center, she served as Secretary of the Charlotte Valley Cemetery, Davenport, and was an active member of the West Davenport United Methodist Church, serving as a Trustee, a member of the Pastor Parish Council, Sunday School Teacher, and enjoyed bible study at the church. She enjoyed playing piano, researching family genealogy and history, and had a great love of the Eastern Bluebird. Joyce also had an extensive collection of Cabbage Rose Glass. Above all else, Joyce was devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and proud grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, she cherished them dearly.
Besides her husband, Frank of Davenport, Joyce is survived by her children: Donna (John) Moore of Oneonta and Cheryl (Gary) Shove of Hartwick; grandchildren: Nathan and Emily Moore of Oneonta and Elizabeth Shove of Otego, and several nieces, nephew, cousins and close friends.
She was predeceased by siblings: John Briggs, Marilyn Cerosaletti and Bernald Briggs, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, January 25, 2016 at the West Davenport United Methodist Church, 1115 County Highway 11, Davenport, with Rev. Kathleen Brumbaugh and Lay Speaker Kaye Freling officiating. Friends and Relatives are invited to call on the family from noon to 1 on Monday at the church. Spring burial will take place at the Charlotte Valley Cemetery, West Davenport.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joyce to the Pindars Corners Fire Department or West Davenport United Methodist Church.
