Obituary of Kenneth A. Mattice

Kenneth A. Mattice, 75, of Prattsville, passed away Thursday, March, 3, 2016 at Albany Medical Center, with Sue, Missy and Mike by his side. Ken was born on May 29, 1940 on his grandparent's farm in Gilboa, the son of the late Melvin Mattice and Elsie Rockwell. He married Susan Joedicke on December 27, 1976. They made their present home in Prattsville in 1978 where they raised Missy. Ken's home was important to him and he was proud to have spent so many wonderful years there. When Missy married Michael in 2003, Ken gained another son with whom he was able to forge a wonderful connection and bond. Ken was a jack of all trades, often found repairing a car or tinkering in his garage. We'll never forget how he would name the old cars with their year, make and model by the shape of their headlights and tail lights. He was very talented in auto body repair and worked out of his garage for several years so he could be home with his daughter, Missy. Ken also had plowed snow during the winter months and enjoyed being able to take Missy along. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, often spending time at camp near Goodyear Lake and on his pontoon boat. In his younger days he also enjoyed deer hunting. More recently Ken enjoyed the computer and had discovered the entertainment of social media. Above all else he enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughter and grandchildren, Meliyah and Mikie. Besides his wife Susan, Ken was survived by his daughter with Susan: Melissa (Michael) Kiel of Stamford and her children: Meliyah and Michael Kiel; children: Kenneth Mattice, Jr. of Jefferson, Gene Mattice of Stamford and his children, Gene and Jillian; Phillip Mattice of Stamford, and Betsy Mattice of Conesville and her children, Matthew and Phillip; his sisters: Shirley (Richard) Loucks of Bloomville, Sandy (Richard) Martin of Ballston Spa, Ronda (Richard) Frazee of Stamford and Nancy (John) Rice of Stamford; one brother: Kenneth (Sandi) Rockwell, Jr. of Stamford; his great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by a brother, James Mattice. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
