Obituary of Bruce Edgar Wheat

Hamden, NY Bruce Edgar Wheat, 82, of Amsterdam, formerly of Hamden passed away Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2014 at Capstone Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Amsterdam. Born in Hamden on June 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Irving Hall Wheat and Elsie Bull Wheat. He attended the Hamden School through the sixth grade, when ill health forced an end to his formal education. Bruce lived on the family farm, assisting for several years with the care of the hens, gathering and preparing the eggs for market. Bruce was a member of the Delancey U.P Church, which he attended faithfully as long as he was able. In 2001 Bruce mad his home at the Countryside Care Center where he enjoyed participation in religious activities and going on trips, he moved to Capstone following the closing of Countryside. The fifth of six brothers, he was predeceased by his brothers, Donald and Carlton as well as he parents. Survivors include his brothers: Rev. George Wheat of Grand Island, Nebraska, Ralph Wheat of Pueblo West, Colorado and Rev. Gerald Wheat of Arlington, Virginia; as well as nine nieces and nephews. Burial and graveside services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 10:30am at Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
