Obituary of William R. Oliver

William Ralph Oliver, 67, of Delancey passed away on Saturday morning, October 11, 2014 at his home following a long illness. Born on March 20, 1947 in Delhi, the son of the late James "Jim" M. and Ann Grace (Mabon) Oliver. Bill graduated from Delaware Academy class of 1966, where he was a three sport athlete (Football, Basketball & Baseball). Mr. Oliver served with the NYS National Guard, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He was employed by RH Lewis and Sons, Delhi, for 37 years, starting as a mechanic and working up to Sales Manager at his retirement. William was a member of the Delhi Kiwanis, Past President of the Hamden Fish and Game Club, Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #49, Hamden, the Delhi Vol. Fire Dept. where he was elected firefighter of the year in 1984 and from 1986 until 1987 served as Delhi's Fire Chief. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and all that nature had to offer, Bill even learned to ride horseback so he could enjoy more remote hunts. He loved the spring season and rejoiced in the colors that nature provided during that time, above all else he was a devoted husband and a proud father. Besides his parents, Bill, was predeceased by two brothers: James Thomas and Timothy Wayne Oliver. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Rohner) Oliver, Delancey; daughter, Abigail (Fiancée- Cody Losie) Oliver, Oneonta; son, Noah (Companion- Samantha Fuller) Oliver, Delancey; sister, Roxanne (Larry) Hundycz, The Villages, FL; brother, Gary (Kim) Oliver of Delhi; brother and sister-in-laws: Neil Rohner, Delhi and Marjorie Oliver Paulman, Dansville; several aunts and uncles including Ralph "Bill" and Corky Oliver, and Jean Cole; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Friends and relatives are invited to call from 4-7PM on Tuesday, October 14, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi.
