Obituary of Miss Elizabeth M. Hawley

Elizabeth M. (Liz) Hawley, 89, of Delhi went to be with the lord on Sunday afternoon, November 30, 2014 at Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta. Born of August 25, 1925 in Delhi, She was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Evelyn E. (Carpenter) Hawley. Liz was a 1942 graduate of Delaware Academy and was employed from 1948 until 1972 as a secretary and accountant for the former Delhi Fuel Oil Co., she then worked for Hawley Realty from 1978 until her retirement in 2005. Miss Hawley was a lifelong Delhi resident and was a member of the Abundant Life Church of Delhi (Formerly Assembly of God Church), earlier she was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, Delhi, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. Liz was an avid reader, especially current events, she was active in local political circles and enjoyed communicating electronically by computer and email. She was also a former member of the Delaware Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Ruth Hawley of Delhi; nieces and nephews and their spouses: Athena and Ross Gill, Dawn Hawley, Cathy and Tim Porter, Angie and Enno Jurisson, Jonathan and Nathalie Hawley, Mary and David Dirig, Thomas and Tracy Canter and Michael Canter; several great nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Liz was predeceased by her sisters, Nellie Hawley and Catherine Canter. Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Hall and Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi. A funeral service will be held on at 11AM on Thursday, December 4 at the Abundant Life Church, 79 Assembly Lane (off Meredith Street-NY Rt28) Delhi. Burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. In Liz's final days she shared a few words with her family and friends "How can I tell you all how much you mean to me? Just a few words for so many memories. My lot has fallen in pleasant places. God gave me a family. A mother and father who loved me, loved each other. They never had it very easy. Brother and sisters who loved me too and put up with me when it must have been difficult at times. ""There's a time to be born and a time to die.
