Obituary of Timothy J. Crowley
Timothy J. Crowley, 74, of Treadwell passed away on Wednesday evening, December 17, 2014 at his home, following a hard fought battle with cancer.
Born on November 9, 1940 in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland, he was the son of the late David "Sonny" and Mollie (Donovan) Crowley.
Mr. Crowley moved to the United States in 1954 and proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He enlisted in 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1965.
Upon completing his Masters in Social Work at Fordham University, he worked as a probation officer for the City of New York from 1982 until 1987, when he and his family moved to Treadwell. In October 1987, he went to work as a social worker for the New York State Office of Developmental Disabilities, from which he retired after 25 years of service.
Tim loved his family, his friends and his community. He had a passion for helping others, particularly those facing adversity. He enjoyed writing, especially screen plays, and had an interest in history and politics.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Crowley of Treadwell; their daughter, Laura Crowley Eraso and her husband Felipe of Jackson Heights, Queens; two grandchildren, Luca and Santiago Eraso; brothers-in-law John Whelan and wife Debbie Whelan, Thomas Whelan, Geoff Whelan, Stephen Whelan, and sister-in-law Sally Mantzouranis and husband Nick Mantzouranis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and in Ireland.
Besides his parents, Tim was predeceased by two brothers, Cornelius "Connie" and David Crowley.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 2-5PM on Sunday, December 21, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi. A Mass will be held at 10AM on Monday, December 22 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 8 Franklin Street, Delhi. Burial with full military honors will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, June 13th, 2015 at Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell.
