Obituary of Nancy A. Scobie
Nancy A. Scobie, 81, of DeLancey, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at AO Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta, surrounded by her family.
Born on September 10, 1935 in Delhi, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Della (Tyrrell) Whitlock.
Nancy attended Delaware Academy Central School, Delhi, and continued her education at Elmira School of Beauty. She then went on to work as a hairdresser for the former Breesee's Department Store in Oneonta until her marriage.
On October 8, 1955 she married Paul Scobie, and at that time she assisted with the operation of the 248 acre family dairy farm on Bagley Brook Road in DeLancey. She also worked for over 25 years each Spring for the Green Thumb Greenhouse in the Village of DeLancey and later at the Route 10 location.
Nancy's greatest priority was her family, she was a devoted spouse, loving mother and proud grandmother and great-grandmother, over the years she especially enjoyed helping with the grandchildren. The Scobie Family Farm and the Scobie Camp held a special place in Nancy's heart, it served and continues as a favorite gathering place for generations of the Scobie family and their dear friends, especially the McKercher family.
Besides her parents, She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Scobie on January 21, 2003; and a son: Michael Scobie on April 26, 2008.
Nancy is survived by two children: Robbin Scobie and Anne Marie Scobie; grandchildren: Sarah Scobie, Ashley Scobie (Derrick Hoyt), Jessica Gutliph, Jennifer Scobie (David Pearson), Matthew Scobie, Micah Scobie, Arley Scofield, Robert Scofield and Paul Scofield; great-grandchildren: Lindsey Wright, Dakota Hoyt and Owen Sanderson; daughter-in-law: Carolyn Scobie; sister: Patricia (Bernard) Trifoso; nieces: Michele Jeffries and Lesley Russell; and cousins: Jean Tyrrell, James and Elizabeth Tyrrell, William and Dawn Tyrrell and Brian Tyrrell.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from Noon until 2PM on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 131 Main Street, Delhi, where a funeral service will follow at 2PM with Lay Pastor Deb Fleming, officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
Nancy's family would like to extend their heart felt thanks to the staff at AO Fox Nursing Home for the exceptional care and kindness shown to their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother over the past 4 years.
