Obituary of Ralph L. Hunt
Ralph L. Hunt, 70, of Delhi, passed away suddenly on Wednesday afternoon, February 25, 2014 at his home as a result of a logging accident.
Born on January 13, 1945 in Delhi, he was the son of the late Arthur L. and Jeanette (Patterson) Hunt.
He was a 1966 graduate of Delaware Academy where he was active and had received the President's Award in the FFA chapter.
Mr. Hunt married Vera Avery Hunt on April 27, 1968 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Delhi.
Ralph was a life-long self-employed dairy farmer operating at his home in Delhi, He also was a long time bus driver for Delaware Academy.
He was an active 33 year member of the Delhi Fire Department, joining in 1982, Ralph served as Delhi Fire Chief from 1989-1990. In 1987, he was honored as firefighter of the year.
Ralph was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and all that nature had to offer. He was a Hunter Safety Educator, helping to pass his joy of the outdoors on to the next generation.
Above all else, Ralph was a loving husband, proud father and grandfather, a gentleman and a true, honest and faithful friend.
He is survived by his wife Vera Hunt; a daughter, Laurie Hunt of Syracuse; a son, Greg Hunt and his wife Andrea of Tryon, NC; two grandchildren, Dylan and Marleigh Hunt both of Tryon, NC; a sister, Alma Rasmussen of Delhi; one brother, Harold Hunt of Petersburg, VA; mother-in-law, Hilda Avery of East Meridith; and a brother and sisters in law, Robert and Ruth Ann Avery and Eugenia Avery, all of East Meredith. Ralph is also survived by several cousins and many special nieces, and nephews that were like his own.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Gertrude Hewitt Mondore, father-in-law Eugene Avery and brother-in-law Pete Rasmussen.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 5PM until 8PM at the Delhi Fire Dept., 140 Del View Terrace Ext., Delhi. All are invited to a Fire Department memorial service on Tuesday, March 3, at 3 PM at the Delhi Fire Dept., followed by a reception at the fire hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delhi Fire Department.
