Obituary of Grace Clark
Delhi, NY
Grace Clark, 83, of Delhi passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 surrounded by her family at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY.
Born on May 23, 1931 in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Caroline
(Hammil) Appleman.
In her earlier years, Grace enjoyed roller skating and tap dancing; she even auditioned for the famed Radio City Rockettes. She was a gifted artist, drawing and painting, and Grace also liked sketching fashion designs. While growing up in Yonkers, NY, she loved horses and often visited the nearby raceway to see the thoroughbreds. Grace loved the outdoors. She appreciated nature, flowers and animals. She fondly mentioned her childhood and the time spent with her cousins growing up, especially with her cousin, Charlie.
In 1950, Grace was first married to James Tucker, Sr. who passed in 2006. She and her husband, James, operated a farm in Bloomville, NY. Over the years, Grace was employed as a waitress at several local restaurants, worked at the former Tait's Appliance in Delhi, was a Graphic Designer for the County Shopper, and retired as a Purchasing Agent from the former Delaware County Infirmary and Nursing Home in Delhi. She worked hard for her family throughout her life, traveled, and enjoyed life. In 1972, Grace married Bruce Clark who predeceased her in 2009. In their later years, they enjoyed traveling and camping, which started by tenting and progressed until they settled at a favorite spot in Meadowvale Campground that became a memorable family gathering locale. In their retirement, Grace and Bruce spent many years wintering in Alabama and summering in Delhi, visiting many parts of the country along the way. Above all Grace was a devoted, loving and proud mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children: Cathy (Gary) Smith of South New Berlin, NY, Diane (David) Daye of Delhi, NY, Sue (David) Teelon of Cataract, WI and James (Simone) Tucker of Delhi, NY; ten grandchildren: Carrie, Sean, Jason, Christine, DJ, Jeff, Alex, Caitlyn, Sadie and Izabella; great-grandchildren: Jenna, Jared, Jillian, Rilynn and Benjamin; step-children and step-grandchildren, including Evan and Wade (Clark); a brother: John (Ellen) Appleman of Bloomington, IL; nephews,cousins and friends, including Nancy Barlow, and Grace's feline companion, Max.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 4PM-7PM on Thursday, March 19 at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be held in the spring at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, Delhi, or to the Salvation Army, both of which were organizations close to Grace's heart.
