Obituary of Fumi K. Kawamoto

Born in Fresno, CA. Graduated HS in LosAngeles. Interred at Manzanar Relocation Center during WWII with her parents, Masana and Karu Kato. Her sister Masako was there with her son Sadao and husband Ted Yotsukura. When she was released, she went to NYC for a secretarial position at Presbyterian Church. She moved to Landsdale, PA for the American Chick Sexing Assn. where she met husband, Roe Roy Kawamoto (chicken sexor). They eloped to Maryland on Dec. 22, 1947. She worked at Wallace H. Rich Hatchery as secretary in Hobart. She became a housewife with 3 children to care for (Janet 1949, Rodney 1952 and Cordy 1953. All born in Stamford Bathgate Hospital). She became Principal Ivan Beams' secretary for a couple years before moving back to LA to care for her mother and worked at UCLA Engineering Dept. (12 years) as secretary for the head of the department. Cordy moved to graduate from UCLA and Rodney went to Santa Monica Junior College. She and Roe spent many years in CA: part of a Japanese formal dancing group, fishing w/Roe off CA shore, accompanying Roe to pistol matches, attending minor-league baseball games, cleaning apartment buildings, caring for her mother and caring for Cordy and Judy's 3 children (Kelly 1984, Michael 1986 and Corey 1988) when they were young and attending their school activities. Janet and Bill's sons (Brian 1977 and Kevin 1980) were born in NY. Brian stayed w/grandma and grandpa before he attended CalState at Northridge before returning to NY to finish college. Fumi and Roe attended Brian's wedding to Katelin Turner (10/12/03) and Kevin's marriage to Mara Kugler (7/28/06). Fumi and Roe were picked up summer of 2008 and camped across country to live with Janet and Bill in Hobart, NY. Great-grandchildren were born Aiden 11/3/08 and Emma 4/20/10 for them to love and enjoy. Three more grandchildren were born Ari 9/25/11, Brody 8/19/14 and Ethan 4/10/15. Fumi and Roe moved to Robinson Terrace and Roe passed away in 2010. Fumi enjoyed the company of residents and caretakers at Robinson Terrace. We will hold an informal Remembrance of Fumi on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 2:30-3:30 PM in the Great Room at Robinson Terrace on State Highway 23 in Stamford, NY. Family will be in attendance.
