Condolences
I was one of David Hildreth's math students at IAU High School in Puerto Rico. Mr. Hildreth, as we students knew him, was always cheerful, patient and able to explain difficult concepts clearly. My favorite teacher. Rest in Peace, David. You helped make the world a better place.
MacArthur Funeral Home created a Tribute Video in memory of Mr. David John Hildreth
May memories of the good time sustain all of David's family at this time of loss. Dave and I worked together with AMTNYS. He was a wonderful leader and our organization is better for his efforts. May he rest in peace.
We met David and Beth when we lived beside them on the campus of Interamerican University in Puerto Rico. We have wonderful memories of many, many hours spent on various beaches near the University. David and Ray would skin dive with masks, snorkels and harpoon guns, catching lobsters and many varieties of fish. We thought we were eating like royalty as we feasted on those delicacies. After our twins were born, David and Beth came to our house every week to do their laundry. We shared a washing machine! While the clothes washed, they held babies, folded our clothes and helped with other tasks!
Our friendship has continued these many years with occasional visits in New York or Pennsylvania. Ray has fond memories of one visit David and Beth made to our home in Pittsburgh. He and David went to Canton, Ohio to see the pro football hall of fame. They spent much of the driving time talking about the many good times they'd had together, especially in Puerto Rico.
We trust that David is in a better place and we'll meet him there someday!

Suzanne and I send our love to the Hildreth family. David was a great addition to the Mathematics Department at SUNY when he came from Delhi to Oneonta. One fond memory that I have is hiking with David in the Catskill Mountains. Taylor Hollist
In 1985, I enrolled in an independent study Masters program. I needed a local mentor and someone suggested Dave as a possibility. That was my lucky day! He was a wonderful mentor and I enjoyed the time spent with him. In later years, I often saw him at the AMTNYS meetings. He did me a great favor and, if I remember correctly, he used his mentor stipend to take a trip. I remember he was very happy about it but the details escape me. Dave was a great person, a fabulous teacher, and I am proud to have known him.

What a perfect photo to post in David's memory. His smile was warm, genuine, and supportive. I worked with him at SUCO for several years and admired him in many ways. I just said to a friend that David was "one of the good ones" at SUCO, and I mean that wholeheartedly. I'm terribly sorry to learn of his passing.

To David's family, Please accept my sympathy on your loss. David was one of the favorite professor colleagues I worked with while Director of the Catskill Regional Teacher Center developing math teaching programs for area teachers.

I have many good memories of my time with Dave as a colleague and friend -- even sharing with him on the canoe trip to the Adirondacks. My sympathies and condolences to the family.

A toast to our Oswegatchie Brother "smooth paddling, Dave"
Years ago the math dept went to NYC for a conference, and one of the highlights was taking David to Boomers (?) in the Village to listen to live jazz!! We had a great time.
we even rode the hotel's elevator with "Geraldine"!! :-)
I just feel so very blessed to be part of such an incredible family. Nine kids, and for them all to be so close. SO many fond memories over the years. A funny memory i have of uncle David involves a round of golf in Ocean City, MD. Not sure the year, but it was so cool to have a bunch of them visit the area. I remember it was uncle George and uncle David. Not sure of the 4th in our group. It was a long par 3 with an island green - really tough hole. Uncle David hit a beautiful high shot that plopped right in the middle of the green. The ball then proceeded to roll slowly to the side of the green where a small corrugated drainage pipe was laying. Well the ball rolled right into the drainage pipe which led right into the water. None of us could believe it, and ol' uncle David came out with a colorful phrase that was more fitting of a man with a Phd in journalism rather than math! Fond memory indeed. Love to all...Jeff Finney
