Obituary of Marjorie Barry

Marjorie Barry, 93, formerly of Benjamin Rd. in Stamford, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home following a long illness. Born on March 17, 1923 in Gilboa, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Alice (Stevens) Mattice. Marjorie was married to John H. Barry on September 8, 1940 in the Grand Gorge Parsonage, a union that lasted over 62 years until John passed away on March 1, 2003. Mrs. Barry was a homemaker, she was a talented musician and could often be found entertaining others with her harmonica. Marjorie also had a great memory and could remember facts and dates, never missing a call to her family members on their birthday and playing them a song. Above all Marjorie was a loving wife, devoted mother and a proud grandmother, her family was very important to her. She is survived by two sons: Steve (Geraldine) Barry of Torrington, CT and Ron (Wilma) Barry of Manorkill; a brother: Benjamin Mattice of Hobart; sisters: Hilda Fergerson of MD, Marie Thompkins of Stamford and Patricia Mattice of Stamford; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband John, Marjorie was predeceased by her sons: Gary and an infant Larry; a daughter Donna Madore; a grandson: Edward William Madore. Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 1-3PM on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at MacArthur Funeral Home, 40 Cornell Ave., Hobart, where a funeral service will follow at 3PM with the Rev. Dottie Morris officiating. Burial will take place at Grand Gorge Cemetery.
