Obituary of Allen R. Simon
Allen R. Simon, 71, of Hobart, passed away on Wednesday evening, September 7, 2016 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.
Born on May 7, 1945 in Staten Island, NY, He was the son of the late John and Alice (Biro) Simon.
Allen proudly served his country in the US Army from 1963-1966.
He was married to his beloved wife of 44 years Cecilia Gregorcak on April 22, 1972 in Clark, NJ
Mr. Simon was a Police Officer for the New York City Police Dept. from 1969-1986, following his retirement after 17 years of service, he moved to Hobart and worked for the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation as an equipment operator for an additional 17 years, retiring again in 2005, at that time, until just recently when illness forced his final retirement, he owned and operated a light excavation and trucking company in Hobart. When not working Allen enjoyed spending time outdoors, working around his home and tending to the trout pond on his property. In his last few years he enjoyed spending time with his only grandchild Monica.
Allen was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, and a 49-year member of the Beauvais Hudson Post #126 of the American Legion.
Besides his wife, Cecilia, Allen is survived by his children: Denise (Charles) Holcomb of Hobart and Keith Simon of Summit; granddaughter: Monica Lee Holcomb of Hobart; and one brother: Richard Simon of Florida. His extended family includes sister-in-law Sharon Simon (wife of John), niece Suzanne Craig, nephews, Michael and Damien Simon, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, George and Monica Severini, and nephew Carl Severini.
He was predeceased by a brother, John Simon.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 4-7PM on Wednesday, September 14, at MacArthur Funeral Home, 40 Cornell Ave. Hobart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, September 15, at Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with Rev. Michael Cambi, celebrant. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford
