Obituary of Guenther A. Noeth

DeLANCEY _ Guenther A. Noeth, 71, of DeLancey, passed away quietly on Monday, April 4, 2011, at Wilson Medical Center in Binghamton. As a final gift of generosity he donated his eyes so that two people would be given the gift of sight. He was born on Feb. 3, 1940, in Germany, the son of Andreas and Koletta (Walsch) Noeth. He married Agnes Riemenschneider on Oct. 6, 1961. Mr. Noeth was the former maitre d' and banquet manager of the Waldorf-Astoria and Pierre Hotels in Manhattan. Retiring as a full-time resident of Delaware County 20 years ago, Guenther was an active member of the local community and held longtime memberships in the Kiwanis Club of Delhi, St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Delhi and St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church of Whitestone. An avid outdoorsman, Guenther enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. He also took great joy in attending Wagnerian Opera performances when he was able. An interest in food and dining let him to join the local Gourmet Club. Guenther is survived by his wife of 49 years, Agnes; three sons, Andreas, David and Guenther F.; five grandchildren; three sisters, Inge, Elizabeth and Isolde; and one brother, Walter. He was predeceased by a son, Guenther Jr.; and a brother, Hans. Friends are invited to greet the family from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Delhi with the Rev. Edward Golding officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be made to the O'Connor Hospital General Fund, c/o Friends of Bassett, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326, www.friendsofbassett.org, in memory of Guenther A.
