Obituary of Patsy Breiling Chazen
FRANKLIN _ Patsy Breiling Chazen, 86, passed away at home on Saturday evening, April 23, 2011.
She was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Ralph and Leila (Wadsworth) Breiling.
She grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson and attended Barnard College and the Cooper Union School of Art, where she met her husband, Harold Chazen, who predeceased her on Oct. 30, 2009. Patsy and Harold moved from Croton-on-Hudson to Franklin in 1994.
Patsy studied painting with Rueben Tam at the Brooklyn Museum Art School in the early 1960s. She was a member of the Delhi Art Group; she exhibited paintings in several local galleries and her studio participated in the annual Treadwell Stage Coach Run.
For nearly 15 years, her studio was home to weekly working get-togethers of the Wednesday Painters.
Patsy is survived by her daughters, Kacey Chazen Llano of Franklin, and Leah Jessica Chazen of Millbrook; her sister, Clover Durfee of South Woodstock, Vt.; her brother and his wife, Robert and Anne Breiling of Malvern, Pa.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Rose and George Weisman of Delray Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Marco and Amanda Llano.
She was predeceased by a son, Michael Chazen, who died in 1992.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at her studio in Franklin at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.
