Obituary of Donald Perry

SOUTH KORTRIGHT Donald B. Perry, 58, of South Kortright, died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi. He was born on December 27, 1952 in Margaretville, the son of Bernard and Helen (Rockefeller) Perry. He married Jo Ann Sidorowicz on October 3, 1981 in Andes. A life-long area resident, Don was employed at the Allen Residential Center in South Kortright as a DFY Aide. He retired on June 22, 2011 after 34 years of service. An avid outdoorsmen, Don enjoyed deer hunting and watching his grandson catch fish. He was a founding member of the Delaware Valley Draft Horse Club and a member of the Percheron Horse Association of New York State. He coordinated the Draft Horse Program for the Delaware County Fair. He enjoyed driving his horses, giving rides, and showing them at the local fairs. Don also enjoyed participating in tractor pulls and finding and restoring tractors. Don loved spending time with friends and family. His "family" extended well beyond relatives to include all of "his kids." His grandchildren were his life and their "Papa" will be greatly missed. Don is survived by his wife Jo Ann of South Kortright; daughter, Elizabeth and Jeromy Wright of Davenport Center; daughter, Lindsay Perry of South Kortright and Fiancée Adam Atkinson; 2 grandchildren, Cooper and Brinlee Wright; a brother, William and Laura Perry and their son Luke of Scotia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Helen. Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 131 Main St, Delhi. A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 15, at 11 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville, with Rev. Bert More officiating.
