Obituary of Alyce B. Zimmermann

DELHI _ Alyce B. Zimmermann, 101, of Delhi, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011. Alyce was born July 5, 1910, to Robert and Martha Bolles on Betts Hill, Delhi and grew up on Platner Brook where she attended a one-room school. She completed her nurses training at St. Mary's Free Hospital for Children and Society of the Lying-In Hospital in New York City. As a registered nurse, she did private duty nursing for several years in Scarsdsale and Hartsdale. She married Fred H. Zimmermann on Aug. 10, 1935, at the Little Church Around the Corner, Manhattan, and moved to Delhi soon after. She was an active member in the Delhi Bird Club, Girl and Boy Scouts, Delhi Historical Society, a 60 plus year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delhi and church group member assisting in many church activities and dinners. She kept herself busy in her later years knitting and crocheting many baby hats and blankets as part of her church mission. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred; sisters, Sarah Wickham, Helen Shand, Kathleen Pondolfino; and brothers, Warren and Willard Bolles. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Robert) Mable; and son, Karl (Pauline) Zimmermann; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi.
