Obituary of Gary Charles Eustis

DELHI- Gary Charles Eustis passed away Sunday, December 4, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. He was 58 years old. Gary was born in Washington, Pennsylvania, May 23, 1953, the son of Charles Eustis and Shirley Haught Eustis. He grew up in Yonkers and West Nyack, NY, graduating from Clarkstown High School and Rockland Community College. Gary had a long career as a parts manager for various auto dealerships in Rockland, Westchester, and Orange counties. In his spare time, he enjoyed racing both motorcycles and cars, and he was a fan of all motorsports. For several years, he was the secretary of the Poughkeepsie Sports Car Club. Gary was an avid reader and published several articles in motorsports magazines. He had an extensive knowledge and collection of music of the 1950s to the present, and he often presented friends and relatives with well-chosen mixes for specific occasions. Gary will be remembered as a keen observer of the absurdities of the human condition. His reserved manner masked a razor -sharp sense of humor, and he was a master of the pithy turn of phrase. Gary was predeceased by his mother, Shirley, in 2000. He is survived by his loving father, Charles Eustis of Delhi; his brother Harold and wife Jane. He was very fond of his nephew Colin Eustis, his niece Emily Levy Espierd, her husband Juan and daughter Nora. He leaves many cousins, and also leaves lifelong devoted friends and co-conspirators Duke, Wilton, and Ted. Calling hours will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday December 7, at the MacArthur Funeral Home in Delhi. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 8, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, followed by burial at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. The Reverend James Hicks will officiate. Gary's family is especially appreciative of the extraordinary care he received in the CVICU at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
