Obituary of Eleanor Catherine Govern

STAMFORD _ Eleanore (Ellie) Catherine Govern, 94, died peacefully in her sleep after a brief illness on Jan. 2, 2012. She was born Feb. 3, 1917, to Michael and Margaret Brandon in New York City. She was the youngest of six children. She graduated high school from Holy Cross Academy and college from the Pratt Institute in New York City. Eleanore married Eugene F. Govern II at St. Joan of Arc in New York City. She was an avid golfer, reader, and loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish and the Stamford Golf Club. Eleanore was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all that knew her. She was predeceased by her loving son, John B. Govern, who died in 1988; and her loving husband, Eugene F. Govern II, who died in 1989. She is survived by her children, Jane Marie Govern of Kansas, Joyce Govern Pindar and Schuyler C. Pindar II of Stamford, Eugene F. Govern III of Stamford, Jolene Govern Young and Max Young of Denver, Colo., and Barbara Jean Govern of Stamford. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Schuyler C. Pindar III of Atlanta, Ga., Jennifer L. Pindar of Cooperstown, Kristy M. Wilfley of Denver, Colo., Robyn L. Wilfley of Denver, Colo., Eugene F. Govern IV of Albany, Eleanor A. Wilfley of Denver, Colo., and Jamie L. Govern and James P. Kaye of Mount Vision; brother-in-law, James Govern of Stamford; and sister-in-law, Marion Govern of Stamford. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In accordance with Eleanore's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Friends and family are welcome to come to the funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford, at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, with Father Michael Cambi, as celebrant. Burial will follow the service in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stamford Emergency Squad in Eleanore's memory.
