Obituary of Peter Stephens

STAMFORD _ Peter Stephens of Stamford passed away on Jan. 5, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on Dec. 31, 1938, in Huntington, Long Island, he was the son of the late Robert and Gertrude Mooney Stephens. He graduated from SUNY Farmingdale, Long Island, with a degree in architecture and did graduate work at Penn State University. Mr. Stephens established an architecture/construction business in Huntington upon completion of his college education. In 1972, he moved to Stamford where he lived for the next 40 years. He was owner of Pete Stephens Builder Inc. and was a successful builder/contractor in Stamford, Jefferson and the surrounding area. He was an avid scuba diver and traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean. Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife of 33 years, Alice Tepfer Stephens; four children, Peter of Fairfield, Conn., Robert (Joann) of Sayville, Long Island, Ned (Jennifer) of Grand Junction, Colo., and Teal Batson (Jeff) of Roanoke, Va.; three grandsons and one granddaughter; two stepsons, David (Julie) Micha of Erial, N.J., and Douglas (Debbie) Micha of Jefferson and three step-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at the MacArthur Funeral Home in Hobart. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at the Stamford Presbyterian Church with Rev. More officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Maple Wood Cemetery in Hunter.
