Obituary of Brigitte Dritsas

DELHI It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brigitte, beloved wife to William, mother to Kate, Margarita and Kosta, and grandmother to Jackson and Edison. Brigitte died at 2:00 am on Friday, April 27, 2012, comforted at her home in Delhi, NY, and surrounded by her family and close friends. She was 67. There will be a viewing Friday, May 4, 2012, from 5p-8p at MacArthur Funeral Home, 131 Main St., Delhi, NY, followed by a funeral service on Saturday May 5 2012, at 2:30p at Delhi First Presbyterian Church on Clinton Street, Delhi, NY. All are welcome to attend. Brigitte, born January 1, 1945, emigrated to the US from very humble beginnings in Undeloh, Hamburg, Germany in 1964 at the young age of 19. She met her husband, Bill Dritsas, in 1966 in Queens where he worked at a produce market, himself having emigrated from Greece in 1965. After marrying in July, 1968, Brigitte and Bill built up several successful businesses in New York City in both food service and real estate. Brigitte's skills extended far beyond her works as a deli owner and landlord, which she displayed time and again through successful architectural plans and renovations of her family's homes. Brigitte absolutely loved to design, read, collect antiques, and garden. These were her favorite pastimes until her cherished grandchildren, Jackson and Edison, came into her life. Brigitte's library is a testament to her voracious and inquisitive mind. Brigitte amassed numerous collections of works by the best mystery writers as well as books on antiquity, philosophy and civilization. History was Brigitte's other main interest, and her knowledge of everything from early European history to modern political transitions across continents made her a resource from which her friends and her children often drew to expand their own knowledge of the world, or get help with their homework. Brigitte's tireless productivity and her love for beautiful antiques inspired her to begin yet another business here in Delhi, when she fulfilled her lifelong dream of owning her own antiques shop. Brigitte opened the Shop at Corner & Main in 2009, showcasing her impeccable taste and artistic nature. Those who loved her will miss her jolly laugh, her tireless productivity, watching her eyes widen at seeing a beautiful antique or fabric, her outright silliness, her deep intelligence and her love for the sweetness of youth. Brigitte will be remembered for all of this, and so much more.
