Obituary of Richard Lee Sackett

DELHI _ Richard Lee Sackett, 69, of Delhi, passed away at O'Connor Hospital on June 19, 2012. His two sons were by his bedside as he surrendered his fight against cancer. A special thank you to Catskill Area Hospice, and especially to Ann Marie for making his remaining days as peaceful as possible. Richard was born in Stamford on Dec. 27, 1943, to the parents of Clifford and Gertrude Sackett. He attended Stamford Central School and then enlisted in the Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After returning home, Richard became a construction worker followed by driving truck in numerous capacities. Richard married Marjorie Bellino in 1963. They had two boys together. After the divorce, Richard married Nancy Clark Mason who had two children in 1971. Richard spent his leisure time at the Black Willow Morgans farm. His love for horseback riding and helping train was unmistakable. He was a very active member of the Tabernacle of the Congregation Church. This church will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, in memory of Richard. There will be no calling hours as per requested. Richard Lee is survived by his two sons, Richard and Lisa Sackett, and Joseph Sackett; his two grandchildren, Danielle and Ethan-Jon Sackett; three sisters, June All, Doris and Julian Hager, and Carolyn and William Boyle; two brothers, Roger Sackett and Robert and Rosemary Sackett; a stepdaughter, Hope and David Yates; and stepgranddaughter, Meredith. Richard is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Dominic Birdsal-Sackett; and his stepson, Robert Mason.
