Obituary of Jesse E. Wheeler

Jesse E. Wheeler, 83, passed away Monday evening, December 5, 2016 at his home in South Kortright following a long illness. He was born on April 29, 1933 in Onoenta, one of seven children born to Leonard and Lillian Wheeler and his step-mother Marie Vandermark Wheeler. A lifelong resident of the area, Jesse was a graduate of South Kortright Central School, class of 1951. He was the State Second Vice President of the FFA. Mr. Wheeler also attended college in Delhi. Jesse was a dedicated and successful dairy farmer all of his life. He got his start at Wordens farm. On October 12, 1952 he married Mary Ruth Chapman, together they bought the family farm in South Kortright where they currently reside and raised five children. Jesse was a hard worker with great work ethics that he passed on to his children. He greatly loved both his family and farming. He also enjoyed watching sports, cheering on the NY Knicks and the NY Mets. Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ruth Wheeler; children: Chris Wheeler, Kathy Wheeler, David (Patty) Wheeler, Karen (Carl) Schulz, Douglas Wheeler, Debbie Wheeler; seven grandchildren: Clinton (Jessica), Christy (Shawn), Kimberly (Ben), Jennifer (Waylon), Robert (Corrin), Jesse (Angie) and Luther (Christy); twelve great-grandchildren; sister: Joan (Doug) Bush; sister-in-law: Carol Wheeler; brother-in-laws: Oren Knapp and Francis (Susan) Chapman; several nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends. Besides his parents, Jesse was predeceased by his siblings: Leonard, Ted, Ethel, Nancy and Dick. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Heart of the Catskills Humane Society or to Bloomville EMS.
