Obituary of Anna O'Hara Buel

DELHI Anna O'Hara Buel, 82, of Delhi, passed away at Countryside Care Center, Delhi, on Saturday, June 11, 2011, after a long illness. She was born July 17, 1928, in Deposit, the daughter of William and Vivian (Thomas) O'Hara. She married Louis E. Buel on July 6, 1947, in Delhi. He predeceased her in August 1985. Anna enjoyed employment as a supervisor in the Department of Motor Vehicles in the Delaware County Clerk's Office, retiring in 1989. She lived her childhood years growing up in Walton, moving to Delhi for employment following high school where she met and married Louis E. Buel. Anna lived most of her life on Elk Creek Road, Delhi. A communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Delhi. As a young woman Anna was active in the Ladies Aid Association, Elk Creek Club, and Civil Defense. Anna and Louis were members of the East Meredith Fish and Game Club and 4-H Leaders for many years. Anna loved flowers and enjoyed working in her perennial gardens. After her retirement Anna enjoyed needlework, crocheting and became an avid quilter and reader. She gained pleasure from giving quilts she made to family and friends. Anna truly enjoyed time spent with family, especially those times at the family cabin on Elk Creek Road and the camp at Saratoga Lake. Anna is survived by children, Kathryn (Finton) Decatur, Voorheesville, William (Jane) Buel, Delhi, Margaret Studebaker, Ardmore, Okla., Michael (Lisa) Buel, Delhi. She is also survived by grandchildren, Stephen and Kevin Decatur, William Buel, Patrick Gasser, Peggy Ann Cullinan, Adam Studebaker, Christopher and Elizabeth Buel, Paul O'Hare; and stepgrandchildren, Kyle and Taylor Laauser and Joshua Taylor; and Anna's seven great-grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia Decatur, Wesley Buel, Brooke Gasser, TJ, Liam and Eli Cullinan. Anna's brother, Richard O'Hare, New Berlin; sister, Iva (Bernie) Heim, Moravia; and sister-in-law, Janet O'Hare, Atlanta, Ga., also survive. Besides her parents, Anna was predeceased by her husband, Louis; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Timothy Gasser; brothers, William O'Hare, James O'Hare, Charles O'Hare; and sisters, Edith Dickerson, Barbara Bowker, Margaret Haynes and Alice Reutenber. The family wishes to thank the staff of Countryside Care Center and the Catskill Area Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Anna and her family at her time of need. The family also sends a special thank you to friends and family who visited Mom and sent her cards during the time of her illness. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Jeffery L'Arche, as celebrant. Burial will follow the Mass in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care.
