Obituary of Rhoda Kakar

Rhoda Kakar (née Dordi) passed away on Saturday, April 16th of complications following a stroke. Born on September 18th, 1936, in Indore, India, Rhoda moved to London where she married Sushil Kakar on February 24th, 1962 and, when Sushil was offered a position in New York City, the two of them then moved to America. They moved to San Francisco in 1965 and remained there until 2004 when they decided to make their home in Delhi, NY. Rhoda was known in San Francisco for her pioneering children's shop The Littlest Mouse, famous for their hand-dressed mice and dollhouse collectibles. She became known to generations of children in San Francisco as The Mouse Lady. After a bout of cancer in 2014, which resulted in the loss of her leg, she was at the Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford, NY. She is survived by her husband Sushil Kakar of Delhi NY, and her daughter Aviva, as well as her extended family in India and many friends around the world who will miss her. A memorial service in her honor will be held on May 5th at 1PM at St. John's Church, Delhi, presided over by Father Darius Mojallali.
