Obituary of Jerome Decker

Jerome W. "Jerry" Decker, 70, of Bloomville, passed away at Albany Medical Center on Thursday evening, June 23, 2016 surrounded by his family. Born on December 3, 1945 in Margaretville, He was brought up by his foster parents Vern and Edna Hosier in Treadwell, NY Jerry was employed at the Delhi Telephone Company in Delhi for over 25 years. The job he most enjoyed was the time he spent as a bartender at John's Tavern in Stamford. He was also a talented cook and was gifted in preparing pig roasts and catering many local parties. He also worked for Harry W. Hawley on his Christmas Tree Farm where he mowed in between the trees along with helping Harry trim the trees. Jerry was very active outdoors and loved to work with his plants and gardens. Jerry was married to Joanne E. Decker at Blondey's Bar in Hobart on September 12, 1992. He also served in the New York Army National Guard, Det 1 827th Engineer Company, stationed in Walton, he was proud of his position as company cook for several years. Jerry enjoyed the companionship of his pets, especially Studley, his beloved Boston Terrier that passed away in February. Besides his wife Joanne, Jerry is survived by his children: Susan (James) Smith of Texas, Tim (Allison) Decker of Meredith, Jerome "Jay" (Courtney) Decker of Delhi, Bryan Decker of Delhi and Stacey Decker of Delhi; a stepson: Clifford Odell of Oregon; three grandchildren: Abigail Decker, JP Decker and Jacob Smith; a sister: Elisabeth (John) Hood; and the mother of his children: Karen Griffin Decker.
