Obituary of Dean A. Scherer

Dean Arnold Scherer, 88, of Bloomville, passed away at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Born in Cadosia, NY, Dean was the son of the late John and Myrtle (Conklin) Scherer.

He proudly served in the NY Army National Guard for several years.  He worked at SUNY Delhi as a custodian with the janitorial department until his retirement.

Dean was married to his wife, Thelma J. (Kingbury) Scherer.

Dean enjoyed being outside and was always on the go and wasn’t one to back down from a hard day’s work. He enjoyed tending to his lawn and enjoyed watching football, always cheering on the Buffalo Bills.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by siblings: Milton, Harold, Bernard, Norm and Martha.

Dean is survived by his wife: Thelma J. Scherer of Bloomville; children: Kathy (Dale) Barnhart of Bovina, Dean (Linda Burdick) Scherer of Bloomville, Tim (Paula) Scherer of Bloomville, Stephen (Darlene) Scherer of Bloomville and William Scherer of Bloomville; grandchildren: Amber, Leah, Stephen Jr., Krista, Tyler, Brianna, Brandon and Kayla; siblings: Victory (Joyce) Scherer of Lockport and Patricia Peterson of Indiana; along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Dean’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A celebration of Dean’s life will be announced later.
