
Obituary of Vera B. Hait
Vera B. Hait, 95, of Hobart, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Robinson Terrace.
Born on February 6, 1930 in Westford, NY, she was the daughter of the late E. Bliss and Agnes (Merritt) Burton.
She was married to Martin E. Hait on April 16, 1949 in Westville Baptist Church, a union that lasted 62 years until Martin passed away on September 13, 2011.
Vera was a cook, working at the former elementary school in Hobart, continuing in the cafeteria at South Kortright Central School for many years. She then went on to cook at the former Allen Residential Center in South Kortright until her retirement.
She was a member of the Hobart United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the UMC Women’s group. She was also a member of the Stamford-Harpersfield Senior Citizens Group and the local Hobbie Club. Vera enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Besides her parents and husband, Vera was predeceased by her brother: Donald Burton.
Vera is survived by her children: Nancy (Doug) Mattice of Bloomville and Gordon (Nadine) Hait of Olympia, WA; grandchildren: Marty (Monica) Mattice of Meridale, Dan (Apriljoy) Mattice of Jefferson, Jeremy (Christi) Mattice of Stamford and Dakota Selene Hait of Olympia, WA; great-grandchildren: Zackery, Kenz, Creed, Shanna and Bonniejean; great-great-grandchildren: Anthony, Eliana and Kade; sister: Doris Donley of Schenectady; brother-in-law: Herb (Mary) Hait of East Meredith; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Hobart United Methodist Church, 204 Maple Street, Hobart, NY, friends and relatives are invited to call one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will take place at Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.
