Obituary of Richard B. Cormack
Richard Bruce Cormack, originally from Plainsboro, NJ passed away suddenly on Thursday February 27, 2025 peacefully in his home in Bovina, NY.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Jane Elaine Cormack, daughter Kimberly Ann Robison, son-in-law Ryan James Robison, sister Jean Corliss, and brother John Cormack, sister-in-law Kathy Cormack, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Douglas M. Cormack, Jr. and parents Jennie Cormack and Douglas M. Cormack. Sr.
Richard enjoyed many outdoor activities but is most known in the Bovina area for his love of gardening and taking care of his beloved orchard, which he finally saw his first bountiful apple harvest in 2024. He loved spending time in the woods with his daughter Kim, son-in-law Ryan, and his in-laws deer hunting, turkey hunting, and putting the meat in the freezer. He was the happiest working outside alongside his wife with his hands in the dirt making everything grow and fixing anything that needed it.
Richard was an active member at the Oneonta Sportsman’s Club and within the local community, often attending benefit dinners for the local fire department and donating any additional harvested food from the garden to the Delaware County Office for the Aging for their meals.
Richard was a carpenter for over 35 years, working out of Princeton Local Union #781 where he met many lifelong friends. He became an expert carpenter and always built things to last. He would write his name and the date behind many of the wood panels installed at Princeton University for the next carpenter to find decades later, as he found others’ marks from decades before him.
Calling hours will be held from 3-5pm on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi, NY, where a service will follow at 5PM with the Rev. Derek Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Hancock, NY in the spring.
