
Obituary of Antonietta "Antonella" Rollo
Antonietta (Antonella) Rollo, 63, of Delhi, NY, passed away on Thursday, February 27th at home with her family after spending a month in the intensive care unit at Albany Medical Center following a complication from elective surgery.
Born on May 7th,1961 in Taranto, Italy, Antonella was the daughter of Pasquale Il Pastore and Giuseppina Pignatelli. She graduated from Liceo Classico Archita in 1979 where she was at the top of her class. She then received her doctorate in Biology at the Università di Modena in 1985, where she met her husband, Stephen Rollo, whom she married in 1990. Antonella worked at Acquedotto Pugliese in water purification and also taught mathematics at Grottaglie Sava before emigrating to the United States in 1990. She and her husband moved to Delhi, NY in 1992, where they lived together for 33 years.
Antonella was a devoted mother to her son and daughter, Christopher and Gabriella, whom she raised full-time for a decade. She then worked as a pre-school teacher at the United Ministry of Delhi. In 2003 she helped her husband Stephen open a solo Internal Medicine office and was an office manager there for 15 years.
Antonella loved the outdoors, where she could be found kayaking, paddle boating, swimming, biking, and tending to her garden. She found great joy in the simplicity of going on walks with her close friends. She also had a flair for creativity, crocheting family hats, scarves, blankets, and shawls. Her most recent passion was learning to quilt with the Delhi Country Quilters. Antonella was also an excellent cook and displayed her love by preparing handwritten intergenerational family recipes including homemade lasagna, panzerotti, and pizza rustica.
Antonella is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Rollo, her children Christopher Rollo and Gabriella Rollo, and her siblings Stefania Il Pastore and Angelo Il Pastore. She was also loved by her sisters-in-law Diane Nergaard, Lydia Rollo, and Jennifer Rollo Piekarski. Her surviving nieces and nephews include Ivana Il Pastore, Roberta Il Pastore, Erik Nergaard, Kirsten Nergaard, Anne Caroline Studnicky, and Elizabeth Piekarski.
Calling hours will take place at Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi, NY on Wednesday, March 5th from 4-7pm. Traditional Catholic Mass will take place in Glenmont, NY at St. Michael’s Chapel on Thursday, March 6th at 10am followed by a private burial at Woodland Cemetery.
