Obituary of Jonathan "Jon" Ballard
Jonathan Ballard, 69, of Stamford, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025 peacefully at his home.
Born on June 21, 1955 in Margaretville, Jon was the son of the late Donald and Josephine (Moore) Ballard.
He was a graduate of Roxbury Central School. In 1976, Jon joined the Roxbury Fire Department.
Jon spent 30 years as an oil delivery driver for Lutz Oil and Main-Care. After his father retired, he took over running the Charles B. Roberts Co. He then went on to work for the Town of Stamford and later was elected Highway Superintendent. A position he excelled at and currently held. Even with recent health issues, Jon could be found out checking the road conditions. Often stopping in and having coffee shop conversations. Being attentive to the needs of the people of the Town of Stamford was something he took great pride in.
He enjoyed spending time camping, traveling to stock car races, supporting and cheering on his brother Dan’s race team. Jon’s greatest passion was his family. The love he had for his family had no bounds, as he was always just a phone call or a tow away.
Jon was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend to many. He was well known for his hard work ethic and willingness to help others.
He is survived by his wife: Debora (Scully) Ballard of Stamford; children: Michelle (Jay) William of Ohio, Lindsay (Jim) Ballard of Roxbury, Emily Ballard of Walton, Adam (Braiden) Ballard of Gilboa and Danyel (Stephanie) Muthig of Stamford; ten grandchildren: Shakim, Jasmine, Logan, Jayda, Olivia, Aiden, Peyton, Jackson, Levi and Ellie; brothers: Daniel Ballard of Grand Gorge and Steven Jaeger of Oneonta; stepmother: Arleta Jenkins of Margaretville; mother-in-law: Nouie Higgins of Roxbury; step-brother: Arnold Jaeger of Prattsville; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 1-4PM on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford, NY, where a celebration will follow at 4PM with the Rev. Richard Dykstra.
