Obituary of Florence McElroy

Florence I. McElroy, 77, of McElroy Lane, Jefferson, passed away at her home on Sunday evening, October 10, 2021, following a long illness.

Born on July 30, 1944, in West Babylon, NY, Florence was the daughter of the late William and Florence Anderson.

Florence enjoyed camping, bingo, horses, bells, Elvis, crystals, and moose.  She loved playing with all the grand babies and was known to be a kid magnet, especially around the pool.  She made several friends at camp including Jim and Pat Nelson and their daughter Katie (AKA rental kid). 

While Florence kept to herself the past few years, she was loved by many.  She enjoyed taking care of her canine companion Lady who passed away on April 23, 2021.  Florence also really enjoyed her phone visits with family and friends, especially Victoria’s daily chats.  She also appreciated everything Dale Kirby and Angi Ostrander have done for her, they were a huge help, right up to the end.

Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by her husband Robert McElroy.

She is survived by her daughters: Florence Goodrich Wiertz (Michael) and Sherry McElroy (Bryan); grandchildren: Jessi (Paul) Benzaleski, Trena (Will) Wilsey, Kaleb Goodrich, Hannah Kirby and Ayden Kirby; great-grandchildren: William Lawrence, Riley Benzaleski, Noelle Lawrence, Adalia Wiertz-Benzaleski and Levi Lawrence; brother: Bill Anderson;  along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Florence’s life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Florences's home in Jefferson.
