H. June Meagley, 92 of Buffalo, formerly of Hobart, passed away Saturday morning, September 29, 2018 at Beechwood Continuing Care in Buffalo after a brief illness.

She was born June 27, 1926 in the Town of Harpersfield to the late J. Everett and Katherine (Grant) Van Dusen and was a 1943 high school graduate of Jefferson Central School in Jefferson, NY.

Following high school, she attended the Mildred Elley Business School for women in Albany in 1944, and then worked for seven years at the New York State Library in Albany.

In 1949, she married high school classmate, Gordon H. Meagley.  After Gordon graduated from the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1951, they returned to Jefferson, where Gordon worked in his father’s drugstore.

Three sons were born, James (Natalie) of Buffalo, NY; Gary, of Rancho Mirage, CA; and Richard (Leslie) of Seattle, WA.  The Meagley family moved from Jefferson to nearby Hobart in 1957, where Gordon operated the village pharmacy from 1957-1989.

June has been a member of the Hobart United Methodist Church since 1957, serving the church in many capacities, including being the church’s financial secretary for twenty years.  She was also an active and long-time member in many other civic organizations in the Hobart area, including the Hobart-Stamford Inner Wheel and the Hobart Historical Society (being one of the six founding members of the Society in 1982).  After her husband died in 2007, June moved in 2011 to the Buffalo area to be near son, James.

She is survived by her three sons, three sisters (Elizabeth Stryker, Jean Stryker and Phyllis Veley), three grandchildren (Misha, Kathryn, and Lauren) and many other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband and three sisters (Marie Norwood, Ella Champlin and Dorothy Hubbard).
