Obituary of Beverly A. (Grant) Hunt

Beverly A. Hunt left the bonds of this world to fly to the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from her home in Stamford, NY.

Bev was born in Binghamton, NY, the eldest of 2 daughters, to Harrie A. and Lillian (Camp) Grant, on December 5, 1939.  Growing up in Binghamton, she graduated from North Senior High School in June, 1957, an honor student and member of the National Honor Society.  She met her life’s love, Robert F. Hunt there, and they were married at 2 PM on March 1, 1957, having attended school that morning.

Together, Bob and Bev raised their 4 sons in various NYS locations, finally settling in Stamford.  Their love affair and devoted marriage lasted until cancer took Bob on February 10, 1997 – just 19 days short of their 40th wedding anniversary.

For many years, they were both dedicated to their Methodist Church, and she served in many capacities there, teaching Sunday School, president of the UMW, singing in the choir, and serving as the Chairwoman of the Administrative Board.  In 1984, they became members of the Stamford Baptist Church, where she (and Bob) once more became active in many areas of the church.  Her first love was  her Lord, and then her family, to whom she was a devoted mother, sister, cousin, aunt and proud grandmother.  She enjoyed many kinds of music, reading, traveling and RV’ing and her flower gardens. Most of all, she enjoyed having family and an excuse to cook and bake goodies for them. Bev was a “people person”, and enjoyed sending greeting cards to all, especially those in need of cheer and encouragement.

A legal secretary, she was employed by Govern, McDowell & Becker, Attys. for more than 35 years including several with Attys. John L. Hubbard and June Johnston.

In 2001, she married widowed Jerome J. Batik, an old friend.  Together they spent part of 20 months together, traveling and planning a long, happy, retirement, before he unexpectedly developed cancer, and died on March 11, 2003.

Bev is survived by her sons, Richard T. Hunt, Westminster, MD; David L. Hunt, Stamford; John S. (Marcie) Hunt, Westminster, CO; and Robert P. (Jackie) Hunt, Erie, PA, her granddaughter, Jennifer E. Hunt (Kyle McClelland), Seattle, WA; step-granddaughters Kara (Alex) Noack Avon, CO; Krista Campbell, Mt.View, MO; and Danielle Campbell, Brea, CA; and 7 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her beloved sister, Linda (Wilfred) Luce, Endicott, NY; and a special cousin, Joan Button Bucek, Binghamton, NY; several neices and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-laws, Alyce Hunt, Frederick, MD; William (Marion) Hunt, The Villages, FL, Norma (Roland) Wokeck, Zephyrhills, FL; and Tom (Elise) Batik, Clermont, FL.; many dear friends whose love and encouragement were treasured in her heart.

In addition to her parents, and husbands Robert F. Hunt and Jerome J. Batik, she was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Shirley Ann Hunt, a brother-in-law, Donald R. Hunt, and close friends Frank and Bette Hornbeck.

Funeral arrangements are through MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford, where family will greet friends and loved ones from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, October 21.  A celebration of Bev’s life will be held at 11AM on Monday in the Stamford Baptist Church, 40 Lake St, Stamford, Pastor Waylen O. Bray officiating, with worship assistance by her closest friend, AnneMarie Lauharn,.
