Obituary of Cathleen Wilson Holmes

Cathleen Wilson Holmes - Born November 30, 1921 in Little Spring Brook, town of Colchester, to Charles Wilson and Hannah Elizabeth Decker English, passed away May 18, 2018.

After her mother’s death in 1929 and father’s in 1933, she went to Walton to live wither her Uncle and Aunt, Henry and Myrtle Wilson and attended Walton High School.  In 1938 she married Clifford Holmes of DeLancey, NY and together they raised their five children.

She was a stay at home mom until 1963 when she returned to school and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. After her 1964 graduation, she began her 48 year career at the Delaware County Infirmary which later became Countryside Care Center.  She served in many departments and held may positions there until it closed in 2012.

Cathleen was a 60-year member of DeLancey Presbyterian Church.  For many years she was a committee member with the Office for the Aging, the Delaware County Senior Council, Delaware Opportunities Board of Directors and the Hamden Seniors Club.  In 2012 she was recognized as the Delaware County Senior Citizen of the year.

She is survived by 3 of her 5 children: Donna Giannoccaro of Middletown, Stanley (Sue) Holmes of Oneonta and Clifford (Joann) Holmes, Jr. of Andes; 5 grandchildren: Nancy, Stephanie, Stanley Jr. “Chip”, Jed and Crystal; and 7 grandchildren. 

Mrs. Holmes was predeceased by her sons: Henry and John; husband: Clifford, Sr.; son-in-law: Joseph; and daughter-in-law: Faye.

Graveside services will be held at 1PM on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Hamden Cemetery, Hamden, NY
