Obituary of Gail L. Dibble
Gail Dibble, 66, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on April 30, 2018.
Born on January 26, 1952 in Margaretville, the daughter of the Donald Matthews and Marian (Haynes) Matthews Schwarz. Gail was a 1970 graduate of Andes Central School and a 1972 graduate of SUNY Delhi.
She married her longtime love and childhood sweetheart, Lewis Dibble on May 26, 1973 in Andes, He passed away on February 20, 2014.
Over the years Gail was employed at O’Connor Hospital and SUNY Delhi. She retired after serving her community for years, first as Village Clerk of Delhi and later as Town and Village Justice for Delhi.
Gail loved traveling and spending time with her friends and family. Her weekends and evenings were often filled with enjoying sports, events and recitals for her seven grandchildren.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi, serving over the years as Trustee and Sunday School Teacher. She especially loved being part of the Vacation Bible School every summer.
Gail is survived by two daughters: Tammy(Matthew) Retz of Mount Upton and Courtney (Bret) Sage of Hamden; seven grandchildren: Aden Miller, Hannah Sage, Lexus Coughlin, Rachel Sage, Delaney Coughlin, Alivia Retz and Latham Retz; sisters: Barb Condon and Dema McAdams; brothers: Robert and Gary Matthews; brother-in-law: Roger (Dolores) Dibble; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, Gail was predeceased by her parents: Donald Matthews and Marian & George Schwarz; and sisters: Doris DeSilva and Patricia Sherwood.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 10-11:30AM on Monday, May 7, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, 4 Clinton Street, Delhi, where a celebration of life will follow at 11:30 AM with the Rev. Dr. Lisa Ruth Mays, officiating. Burial will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Gail may be made to The American Cancer Society or locally to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society.
