Janet E. Maxwell

Janet E. Maxwell, 94, of Delhi, passed away on Thursday morning, November 17, 2022 at Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Oneonta.

Born on July 5, 1928 in Delhi, Janet was the daughter of the late Walter D. and Mary M. (Reynolds) Maxwell.

Janet was a 1946 Graduate of Delaware Academy and attended Albany Business College.  She spent her career as the Executive Secretary at Delaware National Bank of Delhi.

She was a dedicated member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Delhi for over 80 years, where she served as Past Elder, Deacon and was a Sunday School teacher for several years, she was also active in Presbyterian Women’s Association, where she served as treasure for many years. Janet was also Co-Chairwoman of the Marian and Pricilla Circle.  

Janet was a charter member of the Delhi BPW organization and was President in 1956-57-58 and 1976-77, she also held offices as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and Historian, serving as state treasurer for 4 years where she was voted Women of the Year in 1983 and served as Finance Chair for the State 1974-76, and also served as State Historian for BPW.   Janet also served on many fund drives throughout Delhi and Delaware County, including being on the board of the Delaware County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Besides her parents, Janet was predeceased by her brother: Gerald “Jerry Maxwell earlier this year.

She is survived by her sister-in-law: Joan Maxwell of Evansville, IN; nephews and nieces: Jeff (Brenda) Maxwell of Walton, Joe Maxwell of Delhi, John Maxwell of Delhi and Jackie Maxwell of Evansville, IN.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 12:30 to 2PM on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church, 4 Clinton Street, Delhi, NY 13753, where a service will follow at 2PM.  Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
