Obituary of Eugene J. Vandenbord

~~Eugene J. Vandenbord, 94 of DeLancey, passed away on May 30, 2017 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home

Born June 28, 1922 in Primrose, PA, Eugene was the son of the late Joseph and Ellen (Mathieu) Vandenbord

He married Rae Storie in Bovina Center, September 23, 1944.

Eugene proudly severed his country during World War II, serving in the United States Navy as a gunnery officer on the LST 108 in the Pacific.

He operated a Jersey dairy farm on Scotch Mt. in Delancey from 1949 to 1977 when the barn burned and the cattle were lost.

Mr. Vandenbord was active in many organizations among which were the Delhi Grange, Donald W. Gleason Post 190 American Legion, Delaware Academy School Board, Delhi Rotary Club, Delaware County Electric Cooperative Board, Dairylea Cooperative and Agri Mark Inc.  He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delhi, having served as an Elder, a Deacon and a member of the Chancel choir.

He is survived by his daughters Judith Bauer (John E.) of North Haverhill, NH; Mary Rae Garrett (Herb) of Cortland, NY; and Janice (John) Williams of Lyndonville, NY.  He is also survived by grandchildren Susan Little (Tom) of Delancey, NY; Margaret Maxwell of Syracuse, NY, Scott Garrett of Anchorage, Alaska; Daniel Garrett (Trisha) of West Henrietta, NY; Amy Garrett of New York City; and Toby (Heidi) Williams of Washington, DC, Great grandchildren include Jason and Kelsey Little; Scottie, Sharee and Shaylyn Garrett; Gabriella, Alexandra and Danielle Garrett and Garrett Clarke.

He was proceeded in death by his wife of many years. They will be laid to rest in graveside services
at the Bovina Cemetery with the US Navy and the American Legion participating on Saturday August 5, 2017 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in his name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 4 Clinton Street, Delhi, NY 13753, and designated for use by the Board of Deacons.
