Obituary of John A. Dahl

John A. Dahl, 91, died peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Facility in Stamford NY. During the preceding 30 years Mr. Dahl lived with his brothers Gordon Dahl and Raymond Dahl in Bloomville, NY, and before that he lived in Brooklyn NY and Queens NY for many years. Born in Tuskegee, Macon County, Alabama, Mr. Dahl was the son of the late Alfred Dahl and the late Winnye Davis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during both World War II and the Korean War, including service as an aviation mechanic aboard the aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt. Mr. Dahl later worked in the industrial maintenance division of American Machine and Foundry in New York City, and owned and operated a neighborhood candy store with his brothers in Sunnyside, NY. He enjoyed hunting, working on farm and automotive vehicles, maintaining the family property in Bloomville, and being with family. He was a devoted and faithful son and brother, and a wonderful cousin and uncle. Physically very strong, Mr. Dahl was also known for his warm sense of humor and gentleness with children. Mr. Dahl is survived by his cousin Cile Parmer of Phenix City AL; and nephews Michael Curley of Dover PA; Wayne Parton of Sapphire NC; Paul Curley of New London CT; Glenn Parton of Loveland OH; Lance Parton of San Antonio TX; David Parton of Houston TX; and niece Hope Murphy of Bonaire GA. Mr. Dahl was preceded in death by his sisters Winnye Curley and Ruth Parton, and brothers Gordon Dahl and Raymond Dahl. Interment will be in the Dahl family plot in The Cemetery of the Evergreens, Brooklyn NY. MacArthur Funeral Home in Hobart is entrusted with the arrangements.
